FAIRBURY - Samuel N. Hoffman, 88, Fairbury, died at 8:18 a.m. Thursday (March 23, 2006) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Christian Apostolic Church of Forrest, with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, and 12:30 to 1 p.m., prior to service at the church on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Christian Apostolic Church of Forrest or to a charity of the donor's choice.

He was born April 1, 1917, at Fairbury, to Paul and Emma Slagel Hoffman. He married Norma J. Zimmerman on Feb. 11, 1939, at Pontiac.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Hoffman, Fairbury; seven daughters, Carol (Donald) Bazzell, Barbara (Billy) Mashburn and Susan (Eddie) Goad, all of Fairbury; Mary (John) Schmidgall, Salem, Ore.; Diane (Dennis) Rassi, Forrest; Donna (Steve) Maurer, Cropsey; and Janice (Randy) Ricketts, Camp Verde, Ariz.; four sons, Samuel (Mary) Hoffman, St. Augustine, Fla.; and Robert Hoffman, Kenneth Hoffman and Kurt (Tammy) Hoffman, all of Fairbury; two brothers, Paul Hoffman, Fairbury, and Clyde (Donna) Hoffman, Elliott; one sister, Alice Himelick, Kokomo, Ind.; 40 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of Christian Apostolic Church of Forrest.
