Paul J. Hoffman

Fairbury - Paul J. Hoffman, 86, of Fairbury died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 19, 2006) at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m Wednesday at the Apostolic Christian Church, Fairbury, with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Hoffman was born May 31, 1920, at Fairbury, a son of Paul and Emma Slagel Hoffman.

Surviving are four children, Cheryl (Robert) Kaisner and Mark (Mary Jo) Hoffman, both of Fairbury; Curtis Hoffman of Texas; and Lisa Jo (Walter Bebridge) Hoffman, Alvin, Texas; one brother, Clyde (Donna) Hoffman, Elliott; and one sister, Alice Himelick, Kokomo, Ind. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Hoffman served in the U.S. Army during World War II, having obtained the rank of Tec 5. During World War II he served in Africa as a motorcycle mechanic. After the war, he engaged in carpentry and was a general contractor. He attended the Apostolic Christian Church, Fairbury.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.
